Just to clear something up; Tamil is not derived from Sanskrit like most of the nothern indian languages (i.e. Hindi, urudu etc.). Tamil coexisted with sanskrit and is considered a seperate language family form sanscrit; sanskrit is indo european, tamil is dravidian. Telegu, malayalam, and kannada are mostly derived form tamil but they all have certain influence from sanscrit.
