You are right oscar is a commercial oriented award. Some rich corporates get together to decide what they want to do just to get even more richer. when A R Rahman talks on the stage he tahnks Fox Corp where this corp is the most corrupted and ill-company. Having said that, i dont think A R Rahman is any less talented neither Illayaraja i think both are two different magnets

I watched this movie at anand theatre with my sudane friend. Language was not a barrier for him and he was able to enjoy the movie. I am crazy about fiat.
I had a white fiat car and used to play this song while i drive to kanyakumari with my family. Park my car near the beach and play ilaiyaraajs compositions,,,,,

who said..u assols..ARR is not good..i am also a fan of this picture and Raja sir because he is the king of melody..but just think u fools..how many melodies have ARR created..(UYIRE UYIRE, ENNAVALE, EH AJNABEE.etc etc..) how many melodies..its unable to count..but he is also able to do fast numbers..thats his power.. its a good quality that he can make both melodies and fast numbers..instead of just sticking to melodies... TUNE should be created to the situation ..he is only one who do both.

i just dun get it, why is it when u guys praise Illayaraja songs u guys need to bring in A.R.Rahman and his Oscars ? Cant u find other ways to praise Illayaraja's songs? Why cant u all be matured to appreciate the composers songs as it is rather than comparing it with another composer's work? Why is it such? Please grow up!
Btw, this song is magnificent... It makes ur heart heavy... even after 24 years.... Great composition by the Maestro!

@astrobalaji Totally agree dude.. there are so many excellent songs of both Ilayaraja sir and ARR, and compared to all those, Jai Ho was way behind.. its all just politics and marketing strategies.. The real listeners know who is the king of music.. No one can beat Raja sir..

AR Rahman got the Oscar for his worst music because it was a movie which showed that Indians have come out of shit like the lead actor does to come of the toilet to see Amitabh. Recession hit Americans loved it that Indians might be doing well in terms of growth rates, but look they are still starving and torturing their kids. Not saying that it's not true. But the movie won because it made the Americans feel "we are still better off."

i didn't think slumdog was a good movie either. acting was decent, not great.
and the music was not great.
i wish indians would just get the respect they deserve from the white half of the world.

@chowderandspoon Acting was just about average. Characterisation and choice of lead actors was not great either. A white man's hurried take on India, it's slums and poverty. Sometimes it takes another misery to lift us out of ours.

I dont mind what anyone thinks according to me both are good . Each of them represented there times . The heights reached by Ilayaraja cannot be equalled same with ARR . I personally just favour slightly Illayaraja more than ARR. I respect others opinion as well
